At Art in Site we work with NHS Trusts and private healthcare providers to deliver effective wayfinding solutions in complex healthcare settings.

Our wayfinding work starts with strategy and flows through to design, delivery and installation. At every stage we work collaboratively with key stakeholders (clinicians, estates and facilities teams, patient and user groups), to ensure the design and implementation meet the needs of the people who matter most.

  • Increasing accessibility for patients with a wide variety of needs;
  • Reducing inefficiencies in patient transit time and missed appointments;
  • Minimising stress and anxiety, making a difficult experience more comfortable for all.

What is wayfinding?

Wayfinding isn’t simply signage. It’s a systematic approach to navigation that combines visual cues, colour, spatial design, art and digital navigation to help patients, families, carers and clinicians, find their way.

Hospitals are complex clinical settings which can feel both bewildering and overwhelming at first. By integrating art, colour, design and digital tools, we can help people navigate easily between departments and create a beautiful space for all.

How can we help?

We design, create and install graphics and art that integrate with healthcare interiors to form an essential and seamless part of the design.

Inclusive wayfinding design

Navigating healthcare environments isn’t a level playing field. For patients and carers with visual, verbal or  hearing impairments, or those with additional accessibility requirements, the challenge is much greater.

Colour, design and illustration can help improve ease of navigation, create a connection that transcends language barriers, and provide reassuring continuity across a myriad of formats (digital maps, departmental signage, information points and more), democratising access to information.

"The use of colour to guide our patients has worked really well; especially in an area where English is not the first language. It’s also provided a fresh, bright and modern edge to our department which is lovely to work in and has given the team a sense of pride."
